GMC has for 100 years been known for its rugged work vehicles. In recent years they have entered into the more luxury minded and sport truck and SUV market. GMC entered the New Millennium as official sponsor of the U.S. Olympic team. The name Classic Sierra was applied to its large 2000 pickups. The GMC Suburban got GMT800 styling and became the Yukon XL.
GMC Sierra was originally used and respected by farmers, construction workers and small-business owners. GMC's hauler was a basic workhorse known for its reliability and longevity. Recent times have seen GMC's full-size truck adopt the name Sierra, which was previously an upscale trim level. The GMC Sierra 1500 is fitted with either a 295-hp 4.8-liter V8 or a 315-hp 5.3-liter V8.
GMC Sonoma S15 (1983-2005)
The GMC Sonoma S15 was produced from 1994-2004. It was offered in regular, extended and crew cab bodies with short and long beds. Engine sizes included a 2.2-liter four-cylinder (118 horsepower), a 4.3-liter V6 (165 hp) and the Vortec 4.3-liter V6 (195 hp). All three engines were available with either five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions, and four-wheel drive was optional. It has since been replaced by the all new GMC Canyon.
